Between You and the Wind
Unique & hand-crafted visual treasures.

Deliberated is an eight piece visual experience, designed to provoke viewers not only visually, but mentally and spiritually as well. The artists theme and point of inspiration comes from several main sources: Ralph Waldo Emerson’s Nature and the transcendentalist movement, the story of Chris McCandless, and John Krakauer’s Into the Wild (from which the series is named).

The transcendentalist movement is a philosophical movement that, although seemingly complicated, is built upon a very simple idea. All men and women have knowledge about themselves and the world around them that transcends the physical senses of sight, taste, touch, sound, and feeling. It is not a religion, but rather a way of understanding relationships in the world.

The artist explores the specific relationship of man and nature and how one interacts with the other. And not only to explore the relationship between the two, but to also encourage viewers to desire to experience a more genuine and raw lifestyle; one that isn’t caught up in technology, media, or other distractions of the modern world. Most importantly, the artist wants viewers to assess and contemplate their own relationships with nature and the world around them.

The artist used photographs from her own travels to make the images more raw and less refined. Their imperfections and imbalances reveal the true unaltered beauty of nature, as well as the experiences that come with interaction with the world around us.

The quotes chosen from the aforementioned bodies of literature are purposeful; hand-selected amongst thousands to probe viewers and encourage meditation. Colors are muted, and the graphic renderings of animals are simplified to keep viewers focused on the quotes and the images beneath them. The artist’s intention is for viewers to contemplate the quotes that she has selected and to ultimately decide to live more deliberately; to live on purpose and not just coasting through life on autopilot.

Truly experience the world, nature, and all that it has to offer, and perhaps one day we’ll understand just how closely we humans and nature are intertwined.
